A heat exchanger is a device that moves thermal energy from liquid or gas to another liquid or gas. Heat exchangers can be found all around, from the radiators in your home and car to the coils on a refrigerator to a hot water heater.
Typically, copper tubes coiled around each other are used for the liquids to flow through. Building a heat exchanger with anything except soft walled copper tubes requires a special process to prevent the tube from kinking.
Tape one end of the copper tube with duct tape.
Fill the tube with the fine sand by using the funnel.
Tape the other end of the copper tube.
Place the copper tube against the smooth cylinder and slowly bend it around the cylinder. Use the wooden block if you need extra leverage to bend the tube.
Slide the cylinder out from the center of the coil then remove the duct tape and dump out the sand.
